The
Trevi Fountain was built back in 1762 by Nicola Salvi who was hired by the Pope. The palace in the background is seen with water gushing over 24 spouts and tumbling over 30 different kinds of plants. From this fountain, water goes underground and bubbles back up at another fountain in Piazza Navona. (we didn't see this one)
There are HUGE crowds of people here. Many people like the man in the white hat are trying to take your picture for a fee. People that are throwing rose buds at you to buy, people tossing things in the air to sell. It's fun to watch everything happen. There are myths with tossing a coin in the fountain over your shoulder. It's supposed to give you good luck and a return back to Rome. There are different variations to the tossing. Some say it'll bring you a marriage or divorce with 2 coins and such. So, we just watched the coin tossing and called it good. :-)
Our night ended with Gelato at
Giolitti's at a place Rick Steve says is the best in Rome. It was founded in 1890. We ended up with 3 scoops of heaven in a delicious chocolate dipped cone. They put a scoop of fresh whipped cream on top. MMMM! We sat on the street curb and licked our cones till they were gone. This was by far the best and creamiest gelato we had while there. We tried to make it back but time didn't allow.

I LIVED on Galleto...every day at least once. I love the fountain but wonder why people are so crazy around it.
